My 1970/ 1971 Honda z50A K2 Mini Trail Monkey Bike to be Restored

At some point, I want to restore my 1970/ 1971 Honda z50A K2 Mini Trail Monkey Bike.

I created the below video about it a few years ago. At that time I also:

  • Did a fair bit of research to find out where to buy the parts here in Australia. I put all the information in the description of the video on YouTube.
  • I also created a Spreadsheet and did a costing on what it will cost me to restore this motorbike.

When I do restore it, I plan to NOT repaint it. I feel it will hold more value if I simply clean up the existing paint and stop it from rusting further, vs repainting it.

My plan when I restore it is to:

  • Give the bike a really good clean
  • Maybe strip it back to the frame
  • Re-do the seat to make it look more original
  • Remove rust from parts and repaint them
  • Buy the lights and install them (maybe)
  • Buy a front light
  • Maybe road-register it
  • New handlebars
  • New tyres
  • Refurb the motor

I want it to be a ‘rideable bike’ that my Niece can ride around on one day, vs a ‘showroom quality’ bike restore.

Update: 11/04/24: I spotted these videos the other night:

Click the above image to watch the video about this restoration (this is not my bike btw).
